Your doctor has prescribed nasal steroids for you. These are very safe and effective. These sprays treat a number of conditions, including nasal allergy, nasal congestion, and sinusitis. These include Flonase, Nasonex, Rhinocort, Nasacort and others.

  1. Nasal steroid sprays work when they are used consistently over a period of weeks. They are not to be used on an “as-needed” basis. Expect to wait 1-2 weeks after you begin using the spray consistently before you see a benefit.
  2. Use the 1 spray in each nostril of nasal steroid spray 2 times per day.
  3. Put your head in a sniffing position.
  4. Spray the left side of your nose with your right hand, and spray the right side of your nose with your left hand. Think about aiming to the outer corner of the eye.
  5. Do not use saline nasal spray starting 30 minutes before until 30 minutes after the application of nasal steroid spray. Otherwise, the nasal steroid may just be washed out.
