Your doctor has diagnosed you with nose bleeds (epistaxis). This may caused by a variety of medical conditions. Most of the time, keeping your nose moist and humid (especially in the dry Desert heat!) will improve or eliminate the problem.

  1. After cautery or pack removal in the office, no heavy lifting or straining for 2-3 days.
  2. Sneeze with your mouth open.
  3. Do not blow your nose forcefully.
  4. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, and Advil. These medicines can cause more bleeding. Tylenol is OK.
  5. Use Rhinaris or Ayr Saline nasal gel. Apply to the inside of the nostrils 4 times per day.
  6. Use Bacitracin ointment 2 times per day. Apply to the inside of the nostrils at bedtime and when you wake up.
