Immediately after surgery go home to bed.  You can get up to go to the bathroom or just walk about.  Keep physical activity to a bare minimum.  Bed rest with head elevation and intermittent ice pack to nose is suggested.  Change mustache dressing as necessary.  If it is blood soaked and needs changing sooner than every 20-30 minutes notify our office.

On the day of packing removal do not drive yourself to the office.  Eat something and take a pain pill one hour prior to your appointment.  Bring Gatorade and additional pain medication to the office on the chance you need to take more.  After packing removal do not attempt to blow your nose for 24 hours.  Begin nasal irrigation as outlined: Purchase NeilMed Sinus Rinse.  Use twice daily.  Purchase a brand of nasal saline spray and sniff it up both nostrils every 2-3 waking hours, tedious but necessary.  At night coat the inside of both nostrils with Ayr Saline Gel before bed.  Apply with a Q-tip.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Bring Maalox chewables.

2. Bring one bottle of Gatorade.
