Allergic problems often
contribute to chronic sinusitis because of the constant state of
inflammation and irritation in the nose. In some people these
conditions may exacerbate or even cause asthma, which is
inflammation within the small breathing channels of the
lungs.
Patients with mild or
moderate allergic rhinitis often respond well to medication. Severe
cases may require further evaluation by an allergy specialist which
may entail skin testing.
Patients with suspected
asthma are referred for formal testing and
evaluation.
